How’s this for a crazy coincidence?
A local artist sees some of my work at a one-night exhibit at the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia.
He tells Adam, a friend of his who helps manage a bistro and is looking for new artwork to put on the walls.
We arrange a meeting. I schlep about 12 pieces out to Jack’s Bistro in Virginia Beach and while he’s picking out which ones to hang, he offhandedly mentions that his step father is a third generation scrap yard owner and would really like my work.
His stepdad? Bobby Chenman! My metal muse. The man from whom I acquire most of my scrap. The dynamo I profiled in The Pilot this spring.
I hugged him like a long-lost brother. Is that insane, or what?
So, for the next couple of months, you can see nine of my trash assemblages at Jack’s Bistro on Laskin Road near the Oceanfront. The food there has gotten great reviews and it’s such a treat for me to be on display in such a happenin’ joint. Please go try it out.
